A New Year. A New Start!
2009 brought a number of changes to the club, including a new logo. The symbol shows three 'tadpoles' moving in harmony around one another creating a complete circular unit. The three separate parts of the whole represent the three parts of the complete person; mind, body and spirit. When we train in Karate we try to develop all three aspects equally and together in unison, bringing them all into play with every movement.
The objective of Bu-Jutsu Ryu Karate-Do practice is to transform the body, the mind, and the spirit through prolonged, intensive training. It is designed to develop and improved state of physical, mental, and spiritual unity and harmony and in turn will lead to the attainment of superior ability, awareness and understanding.
True Karate-Do is not simply a physical art or sport concerned with fighting. At its highest level, the purpose of authentic, traditional Okinawan Karate-Do practice is the full development and unification of the body, mind, and spirit. This is not a goal that can be lightly pursued or easily achieved. It requires a commitment to excellence, the highest standards of ethical and moral behavior, and a lifetime of humility, self-discipline, and hard work.
Authentic, traditional martial arts training is different than any other activity a person can engage in. Many people today are interested in studying a martial art like karate for a variety of reasons; fitness, health, sport, self-development and self-defence. Not many people realize that there is a significant difference between "karate as sport" and "karate as Karate-Do."
